Lee County Landfill, South Carolina:
In February 2005, three (3) GE Jenbacher J616 generator sets entered commercial operation at Allied Waste’s 210 acre Lee County landfill site in South Carolina. The generator sets are powered from the landfill gas created during the decomposition of the waste. The power plant is owned by Santee Cooper, a State-owned electric and water utility and a major developer of green power projects in the Southeast. The three (3) GE Jenbacher generator sets produce more than 44,000MW hours annually (or 5.4MW/hr). This electricity generated is entirely fed into the public grid and sold as renewable/green power. The plant includes a LFG Specialties landfill gas collection and treatment skid to deliver landfill gas to the generator sets at the proper conditions. A GE Jenbacher TSA siloxanes removal system is also installed at the site. The TSA system is a regenerative, active carbon media, based system which removes siloxanes from the landfill gas with low operating and maintenance cost. The generation equipment and accessories were provided by the Nixon/GE Jenbacher team. The team also supported and consulted Santee Cooper in the plant design and installation. Nixon Energy Solutions operates and maintains this plant under contract with Santee Cooper.
